Inline Street Finals Recap
By Mike Opalek

With a little techno coming from the tent on the right and a little house music coming from the tent on the left and some good old rock & roll blasting through our speakers, the inline street final was going off.  Skaters came from all over Europe to compete: Samo Bajec from Slovenia, Chad Sanz from Scotland, Anderson Germano da Silva from Brazil, Nicolas Schopfer from Switzerland, Stephane Alfano & Mathias Ailhan from France and Borja Fernandez from Spain, just to name a few.

There were three women too: Fallon Heffernan, Jenna Downing and Fabiola da Silva. Fab started it off with a nice top acid down the double barrel rail while Jenna went for a 900 on her second run but washed out on the landing. And so, it was all Fallon. On her first run, she had a horrific fall from the 5ft. wall onto the deck then a six foot fall to the pavement. She bounced back up and shook off the first run. On her second run, she came out tough and nailed an alley oop topside acid off the ¼ pipe to the five foot extension, the same trick she got rocked on in the first run. She added a sweet 540 over the box and a true mizu for added effect, and it all proved to be gold.

With a finals-only competition, the skaters had to be on point. Samo Bajec was coming off a car accident a few months earlier, and although he put in a good effort, you could tell he was taking it easy with only a backside farfergnugen to brag about. Local Dutch skater Sven Boekhorst was a bit rusty too. Not quite sticking his 270 mistrial and falling twice didn’t help his cause. Sven ended the day in 8th place. Nicolas Schopfer landed some ill 540s and a nice unity down the rail. Unfortunately for Nicolas, it was only good enough for 5th place.

Chad Sanz had two pretty consistent runs, landing most tricks like his top alley oop acid on the wall extension, and in his 2nd run he squeezed out a 900 and a 270 to top soul but it just wasn’t enough to get him any farther then 3rd place. The battle for first would be with the French. There were no head butts in this one folks, but the skating was nice. Stephane killed it, landing a 720 right off the bat and added a disaster soul on the corner bowl. His only downfall was an attempted alley oop porn star down the rail. But the man of the day would be Mathias Silhan. As a rookie pro coming off a win in at the Amateur Championships Manchester England last year, Mathias didn’t let up one bit. His hit list included a fakie to front side royale to alley oop top soul, disaster top soul and to finish things off, he front tourqued a square rail like nobody’s business.

Now, with the competition over, I am going to the Loveland tent to dance to suck my pacifier and dance like hell!
