The Return of the King: Vieira Takes Dutch Gold

Skateboarding Street Finals Recap
By Jay Turner

It’s another beautiful day at the LG Action Sports World Tour in Amsterdam, among the loud techno beats and hip dance moves from the 60,000 spectators.  In the midst of this gigantic dance party, some amazing skateboard street action was taking place. The top five into today’s final competition definitely stood out above the rest of today’s competitors: Daniel Vieira, Felipe Barea, Fabio Sleiman, Juergen Horrwarth and Sewa Krochkov.

Number five on the judges’ list was Netherland’s own Sewa Krochkov. Smooth technical tricks like FS flips over the pyramid and kickflip noseslides down the hubba earned Sewa a well-deserved 5th place standing.

It’s really amazing when a skater has the ability to destroy any terrain he puts his board on, and Juergen Horrwarth is no exception. Juergen has the ability to hold his own in the competitive world of vert, but he also can do well enough in street to place 4th place in a world-class street event. Congratulations Juergen!

I was lucky enough to see Fabio Sleiman in action in Rimini, Italy last year. Fabio’s high-speed lines made his runs very fun to watch. A combination of speed and good use of the course got Fabio a well-deserved 3rd.

Seventeen year-old Felipe Barea took the silver today and earned himself the Rail Trick of the Day with a smooth frontside boardslide down the big rail.  Not a bad days work for a guy who doesn’t have his driver’s license yet!

Number one on the judges’ sheets today was none other than the 2003 LG Action Sports Street World Champion Daniel Vieira. Daniel hands down won today’s contest with two flawless runs. Combinations like a 360 flip over the wedge to frontside flip grabs on the quarter pipe got Daniel the gold in Amsterdam.

In case you haven’t been, Amsterdam is a very beautiful city filled with great people. Thanks and congratulations to all of the skaters that competed in this weekend’s street event and we hope to see you in Birmingham, England on July 29 and 30 for the second stop of the LG Action Sports World Tour.
