The LG Action Sports World Championships
The top action sports athletes have been traversing the globe for the entire year vying for the opportunity to qualify for the much-coveted invitation to the LG Action Sports World Championships in Dallas, Texas.
Don't miss the unprecedented opportunity to see the two biggest legends in Action Sports, Tony Hawk and Mat Hoffman will be sessioning the vert on Sat. the 28th and Sun. the 29th.
As the event draws near, the competition and level of riding have become fierce as these world class competitors push the limits of determination not to mention their bodies, driving their sports to the absolute edge. With podium regulars like John Parker and Pierre-Luc Gagnon just coming back from injuries and perennial favorite Kevin Robinson competing all year with a bad shoulder the door is left open for lesser known athletes like Mike Mancuso from North Carolina who shocked everyone in the last event by unleashing a perfect tailwhip flair in the middle of his run.
At each stop along the way the level of competition has been raised and the anticipation has been building. Whether it’s the technical consistency of Andy Macdonald or the massive aerial dogfight between the Yasutoko brothers the field is stacked. With Dallas right around the corner we went to the athletes to get their thoughts on what the World Championships would have in store.
- John Parker – After being hurt and missing X-Games, Parker is back
and looking to make up for lost time. “I’m glad to be back on
my bike and competing. I have a lot of new stuff that I’ve learned but
not been able to do anywhere but Woodward.”
- Kevin Robinson – Has been riding all year with torn ligaments in his
shoulder but he hasn’t let that slow him down “My shoulder hurts
but I’m going to have it fixed over the winter. I still want to put
the double flair in my run but it just hasn’t all come together yet.
Maybe in Dallas, we’ll see.”
-
Koji Kraft– “I don’t
know what I’m doing. I’m just riding my bike.”
- Andy MacDonald – With a big win in San Diego Andy Mac has a lot of
momentum “I’m looking forward to the World Championships. I feel
good about my skating right now and that is a great feeling going into a big
event like Dallas.”
-
Mathias Ringstrom– “I just take
the contests one at a time. If I stop to think about one contest being bigger
or more important I feel distracted. I need to stay focused on my skating”
- Pierre-Luc Gagnon – Coming off of a knee injury that split his patella
“I’m just glad to be back on my board and able to compete in a
big event like the World Championships.”
-
Jaren Grob– “Most of the
time it’s just roots you know, for inline skating, Dallas is the biggest
contest of the year. We need contests like this to show what we do.”
-
Takeshi Yasutoko– “See you in
Texas!”
All roads this year have led to Dallas and the LG Action Sports World Championships. With the largest per sport pro purse on the line athletes will be pulling no punches once the wheels hit the skatelite. The level of riding this year has pushed these athletes so far that they are just as full of anticipation of what will be unleashed in Dallas at the Reunion Arena on October 27-29 as the rest of us.
