Kagy Comes Out on Top! (Again)

by Tom Haugen

The year end LG Championships concluded this evening with all eyes on bike vert. With a field this strong, there was bound to be a lot amazing riding, and there's no doubt all the fans in attendance were left in awe.

John Parker and Matt Fairbairn had mishaps on their usually standard tricks. John took it hard twice on a double whip, Matt under rotated an alley oop 540. Fortunately, both walked away unscathed.

Jay Eggleston, Koji Kraft and Francisco Zurita were all so close with their scores, but in the end, Koji's multiple barspin variations, double whips and opposite 540s came out ahead of Eggleston's 10 foot plus variations and Zurita's double whips and flairs.

Mike Mancuso had the run of his life with a flair whip, no-handed flair, a 540 and many other variations. That well deserved 5th place prize money will go real far on Mancuso's budget.

Jimmy Walker just missed the podium, but rode with amazing flow and hard tricks. Hardly a blank wall for Walker in between flairs, 540 variations, barspins, no-footed can cans and a turndown flair. 4th place is no joke in this field.

Kevin Robinson was looking to take the top spot in his first run, but came up short on a 540 whip with half his time left. He came out swinging in his second run with no-handed flairs, alley oop 540s, switch handed 540s, and opposite flairs. Under most circumstances this would have been a winning run, but Simon Tabron and Chad Kagy both rode exceptionally.

Simon landed perfect on everything in his run- alley oop no-handed 540, turndown 540, flairs, stylish variations and of course a flawless 900. He started out his second run with a really high 900, but landed a little low. He still forced a 540 on the next wall, which gets one to thinking... was Simon contemplating a 900 to 900?

Watching Chad ride tonight was like playing a video game- barspin flair, tailwhip flair, superman seat grab barspin, superman seat grab no-footed can can, etc. The complexity of the tricks Chad squeezed into 60 seconds was truly amazing. Well worth the title of World Champion.

So there it is- another chapter closed in the book of the LG Action Sports World Tour, this time year 2006. What will 2007 entail? Will Bestwick attempt to recapture the title again? Could Mirra be back on top of vert? Anything's possible- just keep an eye out for yourself.
