Reel Big Fish, Seether and Trapt Played at the Action Sports USA Championships
The ipay One Center in San Diego rocked on September 23-24 when Reel Big Fish, Seether and Trapt turned up the volume (way up!) and helpedd kick the Action Sports USA Championship into high gear.
This stacked line-up was a homecoming for the legendary Ska-Punk band Reel Big Fish whose newly released double-CD and DVD set, titled Our Live Album is Better Than Your Live Album is the bands first self-released title in over a decade. According to vocalist/guitarist Aaron Barrett "Basically the live album is just an excuse to re-record everything," this way "It's an easier way to get into us so you don't have to buy a whole bunch of albums, just this one."
Also on the Chocolate Music Stage, presented by LG and Verizon Wireless, was none other than Trapt, one of the most successful breakout new rock bands of the last two years. TRAPT is a young band that likes it hard and heavy...but thanks to their strong melodies also defies all classification. "Their blend of courageous intensity and sweet melodicism suggests a band weaned on equal parts Soundgarden and Pink Floyd, Korn and Metallica," critic Bob Gulla wrote in Guitar One.
Another element that seems to separate TRAPT from most of its modern rock peers is that despite the hard rock attack, their music more often than not comes across as--dare we say --positive in nature. "Every song is either about losing control or trying too hard to have control," says lead singer Chris Brown.
One thing is for sure, Trapt took control of the eardrums of the crowd at the Action Sports USA Championships.
Of course no one wanted to miss Seether whose special return to the Chocolate Music Stage, presented by LG and Verizon Wireless, stoked the fans following the cancellation of Seether's tour due to the much publicized “break” for Seether frontman Shaun Morgan.
The Action Sports USA Championship marked the return to form for singer and principle songwriter Shaun Morgan’s heartfelt vocals and his intensity as a performer, as well as the band’s superior musicianship. No where is Seether’s newfound dedication to the music more evident than their recently released, live acoustic CD and bonus DVD, One Cold Night.
