Amateur Skate Finals Recap
By Eric Kirkwood
Young bucks came from all over the U.S. to compete in this morning’s Action Sports World Tour amateur skate finals here in sunny San Diego.
Dylan Taylor was the first big standout in the competition. Dylan not only had a nice variety of grabs in his bag, but also pulled out a cab-melon, backside nose grind, and kickflip backside and indy grabs. His efforts landed him a fourth place spot.
Chris O'Reilly had an air of confidence as he rolled through a nice run. He capitalized on a well-rounded run of lips and airs with a heelflip indy, kickflip indy and kickflip indy to fakie for third place honors.
Adam Taylor and Josh Stafford were both ripping up the warm up session, and going into the contest they were both in contention for top podium position. Today it came down to consistency with both skaters owning their runs and throwing down a slew of tricks.
Adam Taylor had all the grab variations, gay twists, cab-melons, backside 360s and heelflip indys as well as kickflip to fakies.
Josh Stafford was a flurry of speed with big airs, cab mute grabs, kickflip and heelflip indys and even a well spun Mctwist.
In the end Adam’s fall on the fifteenth wall gave Josh the advantage with his flawless first run and with Adam unable to answer with the same in his second, Josh Stafford clinched first place.
Thanks to all of the young skaters in today’s amateur finals and congratulations to our top finalists.
