Seether
Keith Allen Caught up With the Band Before the Show
Reigning from South Africa and originally named “Saron Gas,” Seether came to town this weekend and took over The Action Sports US Championships.
I had a chance to sit with these guys and talk about their “real-life” rock legend path over the past few years. A lot has happened with them since their early days as Saron Gas.
I was impressed with their ability to take experiences, both traumatic and inspiring, and translate them into the maturity necessary to survive as a successful band. “Roll with it” as they say.
Lead singer, Shaun Morgan has personally been through a series of events that range from the publicly displayed break-up with a certain female singer from another well known band I can’t mention, to rehab and a few illnesses along the way. I only mention these things because they are the inspiration for certain song material and because they are the building blocks for a guy who’s been humbled while going through life on life’s terms. Shaun, and all the guys from Seether were down to earth, open to talk, and extremely cool to hang out with.
What’s more, they tore the roof off the ipayOne Center here in San Diego for the last stop of the Action Sports World Tour. Their set was HUGE! You get a sense from them that this is real, and as we discussed in our interview, no matter how many shows you play (300 in a year), every crowd and every experience is unique to itself and enjoyed as such.
We talked about chemistry, and how certain members who departed over the past few years were replaced by ones who added to the foundation of what Seether has become as a result.
There is no faking anything with these guys. In short, they are grateful for the experience, happy to be where they are, slightly below the radar, and want nothing more than to keep on doing what they do.
Seether has a new record scheduled to drop in March of 2007. ‘Til then I highly suggest you check out their websites, pick-up a copy of “Disclaimer” with hits like “Gasoline,” “Driven Under,” and the runaway single “Fine Again.” Also check out “Disclaimer II,” “Karma & Effect,” and for a sample of their dichotomy, be sure to listen in on their incredible acoustic release “One Cold Night.”
Seether shares something with a few of the great bands whose names will never be forgotten. It’s something you just can’t buy, or put your finger on…however, you can certainly explore it with the titles mentioned above and make-up your own mind.
Be sure to check out my televised interview with Seether for more, and all my interviews with this weekend’s bands by checking the TV schedule on this site for airdates and times.
