Bucky Lasek Poised to Dominate at the LG Action Sports Championships
By Brooke Geery

Bucky Lasek has a lot to celebrate coming into the LG Action Sports Championships in Dallas. He and wife Jen welcomed their third daughter, Tenzin, into the world October 5th and he is fresh off his first big win of 2007, at the AST Dew Tour in Orlando on October 20th. Although he finished a disappointing 8th at the LG Championships in 2006, Bucky is always one to watch — one of the most consistent and exciting skaters in vert competition.

Originally from Maryland, 34-year-old Lasek has had a long career in the skate industry, beginning in the late '80s. He began skating at age 12, after his bike was stolen, and within a few years turned pro for Powell Peralta. He's weathered the changing industry and survived its rough patches, emerging with more awards than he could possibly have room for in his Southern California home.

Bucky has two Dew Cups under his belt, twelve X Games Medals (including seven Gold), multiple Slam City Jam victories and a couple gold medals from the Gravity Games thrown in for good measure.

On the vert ramp, Bucky is known for his mastery of technical tricks other riders would never dream of attempting in competition. Some of his signature contest tricks include the Heelflip Frontside Gay Twist and Switch Frontside 540.

Early this season, Bucky underwent knee surgery, but bounced back quick, skating in the Right Guard Open just one month later, and taking second place. Not your average recovery time, but Bucky isn't the type to let a little injury get in his way.

In addition to being recognizable for his skateboarding, Bucky has appeared on the big screen in movies such as Grind and Haggard: The Movie. He's a star on the small screen not just as a character in Tony Hawk's Pro Skater but with appearances on MTV shows Cribs, Punk'd, Viva La Bam and even an episode of Mad TV.

Bucky has earned his place as one of the most recognizable and overall best vert skaters in the world, and with the momentum he's carrying into this event, there's no telling what's possible.

Bucky will be competing in the Skateboard Vert qualifiers on Friday, November 9, and quite likely the finals on Saturday as well. The LG Action Sports Championships are set to take place at the Reunion Arena in Dallas, TX.
