Snow on the Beach

SuperGirl Jam - Sunday Recap
By Jared Souney

It's safe to say Mission Beach doesn't see snow very often. Leave it to the women of the SuperGirl Jam to make it snow. Okay, so it took a truckload of ice, a snowmaker, and a crew armed with shovels to keep it going, but for a few short hours, there was indeed snow on the beach.

"It's fun that the iconic S-shield of Supergirl will be the symbol we rally around as we celebrate female empowerment and competition at the S3 Supergirl Jam," said event co-host Gretchen Bleiler.

Some of the biggest names in women's action sports made their way to Mission Beach for the SuperGirl Jam. Skateboarders Vanessa Torres, Elissa Steamer, Lynn-Z Adams Hawkins and Lacey Baker, Snowboarders Chanelle Sladics, Bev Vuilleumier, Jamie Anderson and Leanne Pelosi, and female rockers The Donna's were all here shredding and rocking all day long to a packed in crowd of beach goers.

The SuperGirl Jam was no novelty act. The skating on the park course, and the snowboarding on the rail was the real deal. Lacey Baker was 360-flipping everything on the park course, and would have given any skater — male or female — a run for their money. The money was all Lacey's today though... $4000 worth. Bev Vuilleumier was the big winner today at the snowboard rail, taking home one of the four jam sessions along with the SuperGirl Super Power Trick with a 180 to 50/50 to 180 out on the rail.

The snow may not have lasted long in the San Diego heat, but it stuck around long enough to see some heavy shredding. The event brought out a huge crowd, along with a slew of the best women in their respective sports... true SuperGirls.
