BMX Big Air Triples Day One
Diogo Canina Takes the top spot in the first preliminary round.
The highly anticipated 2008 BMX Big Air Triples event of the Action Sports World Tour is officially underway in Costa Mesa, CA. The first night of preliminary competition just wrapped up after three rounds of head to head competition.
This stop of the Action Sports World Tour has brought us to the Orange County fairgrounds in Costa Mesa, California where fans packed into the stands of the Action Sports Arena to witness the BMX insanity first hand.
BMX Big Air Triples is a hybrid of BMX dirt jumping, park, and mega ramp disciplines. A huge roll-in followed by two sets of wooden jumps lead into a quarterpipe. Riders are judged on the tricks they do on each of those three hits, so a good trick on each is essential to a top placing.
Twelve of the best jumpers in the world competed against each other in head to head battles, narrowing the field down to the top three riders of the night. The diverse field included Chester, England’s Alistair Whitton and Brazil’s Diego Canina. Canina made his way through the Quarter and Semi-Finals to face off against Sean Logan and Rick Mosely in the Final round. A competition veteran, Canina’s experience and huge tricks like backflip tailwhips landed him in the top spot of the evening.
Tonight was just the beginning, though. Tomorrow will see 12 more riders face off, in a similar fashion. The top six riders from each night will make there way into a Final Round on Thursday night, which is sure to be insane.
Qualifying into Thursday’s final from the first night of competition are:
Sean Logan
Alistair Whitton
Pat Casey
Rick Mosely
Tony Campos
Diogo Canina
Be sure to check back tomorrow and see who makes it through from Wednesday night’s prelim.
Sean Logan, Diogo Canina, Rick Mosely.
