S3 Supergirl Jam Day 2

Perkins Qualifies first, Jonz and Weirstall Take Best Trick

By Brooke Geery

It was an action-packed day second day at the S3 Supergirl Jam in Huntington Beach. Things started off with Skateboard Street Prelims, where Lauren Perkins qualified on top for Sunday's final. Be sure to check out the full story about the skate street action. Then the skating moved over to the vert ramp for the Vert Best Trick Contest. The top ladies in the world battled it out and Brazilian Karen Jonz nailed a nollie pop shuv to win. For all the details check out the recap.

Out in the ocean the ladies also got a chance to show their stuff. The Supergirl Junior Pro Finals went down on some of the best swells Huntington has had in years. Meanwhile, the cast of the new WB Show, Blue Water High was on hand to sign autographs and pose for photo ops. Fans also got a chance to grab autographs from top female athletes — skateboarder Lyn-Z Adams Hawkins, inline skater Fabiola da Silva, Olympic snowboarder Gretchen Bleiler and pro surfer Kassia Meador were on hand. And for fans who really wanted to get their hands dirty and give skateboarding a try, there were clinics on the street course all afternoon.

The action concluded with the Inline Rail Jam, a best trick competition. Eight women from across the globe took to the same rail the snowboarders will hit tomorrow. No, there's no snow yet, but that doesn't make this thing any less gnarly. The set up consisted of two big ledges with a legit metal handrail down the middle of 20 stairs.

Inline Skating's best women were on hand to throw themselves skillfully down the rail and they did not hold back. One of the rowdiest crowds of the day hooted and hollered as the girls either negotiated the rails successfully or crashed even more dramatically. Fallon Heffernan definitely earned the heart award, trying to jump over the rail and land backwards, crashing and again and again. But, as the announcer said, they can't give an award for heart. Luckily she landed a Backside Top Acid to Backside Royale early on that earned her third place. In second was Martina Svobodova of Slovakia. She crossed the pond to nail a True Spin Topside Royale. First place went to Chynna Weirstall. The youngest competitor of the day at just 16, this was Chynna's first pro event. After several impressive tricks, she nailed a Unity Step Acid to take top honors.

The S3 Supergirl Jam concludes Sunday with the Skateboard street finals, where he top street skaters in the world will battle it out, and of course the Snowboard Rail Jam.
