BMX Big Air Triples Day One
For the second year in a row top BMX riders have converged on the Orange County fair in Costa Mesa for the ASA Action Sports World Tour's BMX Triples
event.
This year's format is unique: 36 riders total, broken into two qualifying
groups of 18. Each group competes in a head to head bracketed format, and
the top six riders from each night move on to Friday nights final.
Group A rode tonight, and if it was any indication of what the next two
nights have to offer, Costa Mesa is in for a real treat. Dennis Enarson,
Luke Parslow, Rob Darden, Josh Hult, Ryan Guettler, Dave Dillewaard and more
made up a stacked qualifying group for the first night of competition.
The Triples event is judged on two back to back jump sets, followed by a
quarterpipe. Each hit counts, and in a head to head format, you've got to
throw down your best stuff just to advance. So the big tricks were coming
out very early on.
The final round left three riders atop the roll-in: Ryan Guettler, Colton
Satterfield, and recent Dew Tour winner Josh Hult. All three riders brought
out some big tricks in the early rounds, but they still had some bangers
saved for the final round, including a double flip from Guettler, and a
double downside whip 360 from Hult. Guettlers second run, which included a
double flip, was enough to put him on top of the podium despite big runs
from Satterfield and Hult.
Tomorrow night another 18 riders face off, followed by Friday's final round
of 12 riders.
BFD.com will be bringing you a live web cast of Friday's
