FMX Team Energy Cup Heats Up Harrah's Rincon

The weekend festivities of the FMX Team Energy Cup kicked off last night, but one thing was missing: The noise of motorcycle engines. Instead, the festivities got underway with a packed performance from world renowned DJ/producer Paul Oakenfold. The FMX got to relax in the pool for the evening and listen to some music at Harrah's Rincon resort. Not a bad life.
Saturday afternoon things heated up though. And by heated up I mean the temperature had climbed considerably, but that didn't stop the two teams (Team SoCal and Team Nevada) who showed up to battle it out on the FMX Team Energy Cup course. The format of this event is very different from traditional FMX competitions. Two teams are competing against each other, however the team points are earned based on the performances from individual riders. Today was the "seeding round" for tomorrow's final, as well as a separate Best Trick and Best Whip competition.
Team Nevada consisted of heavy hitters Mike Mason, Drake McElroy, Brian Foster and Matt Buyten, but all those competition medals combined weren't enough to overtake Team SoCal which was comprised of Jeff "Ox" Kargola, Blake "Bilko" Williams, Cameron Sinclair, and Rob Adelberg. SoCal killed it across the board with some incredible flip variations and overall consistency. Four Points were awarded to Team SoCal based on today's seeding round, and those points carry into tomorrow's final round to see who wins the FMX Team Energy Cup.
The Best Trick and Best Whip contests which followed the team portion also went to Team SoCal. The whip of Jeff "Ox" Kargola and the flip variations of Cameron Sinclair just couldn't be matched. Best Whip and Best Trick went to those guys respectively and completed the SoCal sweep.
