PLG Dominates Once Again

Skateboard Vert: Minneapolis Action Sports World Tour
By Jared Souney

Pierre-Luc Gagnon is living a life of total domination. In 2008 he won the Dew Cup, the Maloof Money Cup, X Games, and the LG Action Sports Championships. From the looks of things, 2009 isn't going to be much different.

The Minneapolis stop of the Action Sports World Tour brought out some of the best vertical skateboarders in the world. There were young guns including Zach Miller (this was Zach's first Pro contest), Adam Taylor, Rob Lorifice, and Alex Perelson. And there were veterans like Danny Mayer and Lincoln Ueda. Danny has really been on a tear in the last year, and actually gave PLG a run for his money this time around.

The consistency, 720s, and back to back variations of PLG are hard to stop at the moment. Marcelo Bastos as well as Danny Mayer put in great efforts, but when Pierre-Luc is on, he's on. The Action Sports World Tour uses a four run format, that gives the skaters ten walls. If you fall, you're done. The best run of the four is then taken as the score. So you've got four shots to give it all you've got. The first two rounds weren't in Mayer or PLG's favor, and for a while it looked like the podium spots might go to Bastos, Loriface and Taylor. But as things moved on, PLG and Mayer both put together some bangers, and the podium positions had shifted.

Next weekend the Action Sports World Tour moves to Chicago, and there's no question Danny Mayer is going to give everything he's got to try and nab that first place podium position from his good friend Pierre-Luc Gagnon. Anything can happen.
