Supergirl Jam Partners With Girls Inc. in Support of Female Empowerment

"What is a Supergirl?" Essay Contest Will Honor Four Girls Inc. Attendees

LOS ANGELES (September 2) - For the third consecutive year, the Supergirl Jam is partnering with Girls Incorporated® in support of empowering young women to realize their potential and exercise their right to be their best. On Sunday, September 6 at 10 a.m., during the final stop of the 2009 Supergirl Jam event series, the top female pro action sports athletes in skateboarding, snowboarding, surfing and inline skating will host a group of girls from the Greater Los Angeles chapter of Girls Inc. at Venice Beach to enjoy the industry's largest all-girls action sports competition and lifestyle festival.

"Our girls are very excited about this opportunity," said Kathryn Seiffert, Executive Director of Girls Inc. of Greater Los Angeles. "Being able to see young ladies who are not much different from themselves, succeeding by doing the things they enjoy gives our girls hope that if they try hard and stay committed and focused, anything is possible in life. We thank the Supergirl Jam for this chance to participate in this inspiring event."

To celebrate the Supergirl in all young women, Girls Inc. has selected four young ladies to present their "What is a Supergirl?" essays to the Supergirl Jam athletes during the Sunday morning activity. These ladies will read their essays and afterward be presented with an autographed Supergirl Skateboard deck for their talent. Additionally, the morning will offer an informal instructional skate clinic, a Q & A period, autograph session, gift bag distribution and lunch with the athletes in the special Girls Inc. seating section for the event's activities.

"This is what the Supergirl Jam is all about to me," said Chanelle Sladics, Supergirl Jam Host Committee member and 2007 X-Games snowboarding medalist. "Encouraging little girls to dream - believe they can do anything. Through action sports I am able to express myself and that's where I find my confidence and my tools to take on everything. I want to inspire these girls to find their own heartbeat and live their lives to the fullest."

Girls Incorporated® of Greater Los Angeles is a program that provides girls from age 6 to 18 with the tools to make the best choices in life, assert their rights and become empowered around academic, economic and social issues. Along these same lines, the Supergirl Jam was designed to encourage and celebrate a young lady's creativity, strength, independence and leadership.

The 2009 Supergirl Jam event series consists of three stops - the Association of Surfing Professionals Grade-4 Supergirl Pro Junior contest that took place on August 15 & 16 in Oceanside, Calif.; the Supergirl Pro-Am Jam Skateboard Street competition that took place at Woodward West in Tehachapi, Calif. on August 19; and the Supergirl Jam finale at Venice Beach coming up on September 6 beginning at 11 a.m.

All of the competitive action from Venice Beach, and event highlights from the Supergirl Pro Junior and Supergirl Pro-Am Jam, will be streamed LIVE on GO211.com and TheWB.com, the official online destination for the 2009 Supergirl Jam events and competitions.

Programming featuring all three stops in the Supergirl Jam event series will be televised this fall on networks to include CBS Sports, FUEL TV and Fox Sports Net.

ASA Entertainment, the leading action sports events, TV and content production company in the U.S., produces the Supergirl Jam with its partner, Warner Bros. Consumer Products.
