19 years ago in the country Victorian town of Baxter, a 5-year-old kid climbed aboard a 50cc mini bike and gingerly twisted the throttle for the first time. From that day, Blake Williams knew he was headed for life on two wheels.

His direction never changed, and in 2009, he is still fuelled by the same passion. Along the way, a promising career began to take shape and a nickname, ‘Bilko’, stuck and couldn’t be shaken.

A fan favourite and a trusted friend to his fellow riders, Bilko has emerged as one of Freestyle Motocross’ most personable, exciting and dynamic riders, enjoying success on range of levels.

As the niche sport began to grow in Australia at the turn of the century, the plucky Victorian grew with it. Inspired by pioneers in Europe and the US, Bilko studied the tricks his heroes were creating and set about emulating them.

A competent Supercross racer in his own right, Bilko’s desire to reach heights unreached saw him turn to FMX full-time. A star of the world-renowned Crusty touring shows, the Aussie shone in the spotlight and quickly came to the attention of competition organisers abroad. He broke onto the X-Games scene in 2006, placing 3rd and sending an ominous message to rival riders.

Continuing his commitment to the Crusty shows and various local competitions, Williams made the decision to establish a base in the US, and would spend half of the year competing, training and working with sponsors. The move had immediate effect – he went on to win the next event he entered, and became the first Aussie to win a round of the Dew Tour, the ‘Olympics of Action Sports'.

Williams’ highlight performance was cut short by injury, but after undertaking a full rehabilitation program to ensure his health and future in the sport, he was back with a vengeance and won himself the Gold Medal in Freestyle at the 2009 X Games 15.
